Outline of 2023 NYSC camp activities


1.     Accommodation

Accommodation is provided for all dully registered Corp members.

It’s the duty of Corp members to take proper care of the mattresses given and ensure that hostels, bathrooms, and toilets are clean ALWAYS, throughout the duration of the orientation programme.

2.     Registration

Corp members are to ensure that they are properly registered following the laid down instructions. Care must be taken to avoid errors in filling in all documents and formats given to them by the Registration Officers.

3.     Kitting

Kit items will be issued to every Corp members after registration, by the platoon officers. Care must be taken to avoid loss of the kit, as there will be no replacement. The kit items are issued free.

NOTE: bring a lot of personal kits to the orientation camp, as the ones given by the officials at the camp won’t be enough to sustain you.

4.     Swearing in Ceremony

This is the formal commencement of the orientation programme following the closure of registration of Corp members. It is a colorful ceremony during which Corp members swear to an oath of allegiance to the NYSC. The pledge is administered by the State Chief Judge.

The ceremony affords Corp members the initial contact with the State Chief Executive (Governor); members of the House of Assembly, Traditional rulers, members of the NYSC Governing Board, notable personalities and the press etc.

Among the activities for the swearing in ceremony are; inspection of the guard of honor mounted by Corp members and inspection of the camp facilities by the Special Guest of Honor.

5.     Morning Meditation

This is the motivational aspect of the orientation course carried out early in the morning. It is designed for Corp members and camp official to stimulate

Innate potentials, moral consciousness and positive feelings towards fellow human beings, the community and the nation in general. Corp members are encouraged to contribute writ-ups on issues pertaining to nation building, moral uprightness and patriotism.

6.     Lectures

Lectures have been arranged for the Corp members on relevant issues bordering on socio-cultural and economic well being of the nation. It is compulsory that you attend all lectures. In most cases, guest lecturers are invited from outside the scheme to present topical issues. Officials have been directed to take roll calls during such occasions.

7.     Physical Activities

(Dill Man ‘O’ War Training) you will understand physical exercise, military drills, as well as leadership and citizenship training programmes put together by soldiers and Man ‘O’ War Officials, to prepare you mentally and physically for the challenges of service year.

Skills acquisition programme; entrepreneurship development and skill acquisition programmes in various areas of the economy are introduced to you. You are encourage to pay necessary attention and be engaged in one skill or the other, to equip yourself for the life after the service.

Sport; over the year sporting activities have become part of the orientation course. These activities are organized on camp to provide entertainment and avenues for relaxation for Corp members and camp officials. Activities such as dance, drama and comedy competitions are packed by the committee and also Mr. Macho, Miss Bold and Beautiful, among others. The social committee in collaboration with the Man ‘O’ War officials organize the camp Fire Night show to cap the orientation course social activities.

8.     CORP WELFARE

You will be centrally fed throughout the orientation course period. Every Corp members will be issued a meal ticket, which will be used, throughout the period of the orientation course.

NOTE; the meal ticket is a security document and cannot be replaced if lost. You will be called upon to participate in the cooking and serving of meals to your colleagues on platoon basis. Nobody is allow to double ration.

9.     ALLOWANCES  

        NYSC will pay you a bicycle allowance of #3,000 inside orientation camp, they will pay you #33,000 monthly for twelve months. Some states also pay corps members, your PPA will pay you at least #5,000 monthly depending on how you negotiate with them.                           

10.                        HEALTH CARE

The NYSC operates 24 hour clinic on camp manned by Corps medical team, comprising Corp doctors, Pharmacist, Nurses, among others, under the supervision of senior camp officials. Corp members are warned against self-medication. Any care that is beyond the clinic’s capacity will be referred to the nearest General or Military Hospital.
